Many of my clients living in a rural setting request a soft, country garden planting mix, where cool pastel colours combine to create calming visual interest. Traditional roses, geraniums and hydrangeas often feature, mixed in with some of our Mediterranean favourites such as salvias and hibiscus, well suited to the climate in the south of England.
Natural stone hard landscaping materials allow the garden to sink seamlessly into its setting, and fruit trees along with some ornamentals complete the picture.
Sussex Country Garden
This is a wonderful Sussex garden with stunning views to the wider landscape along its open boundary. I chose a cohesive grey sandstone hard landscaping palette, mixing slabs, setts and dry stone walling together. A stunning summer planting mix of purples, blues, pinks and silver work strongly against this.
The beautiful sandstone wall is bordered with a Lonicera nitida hedge, and a sunken seating area and sunken vegetable garden introduce level changes to a flat plot.
